Great Notion Brewing has filed for a Small Beer Manufacturer license with the California Alcoholic Beverage Control, according to an application pending since Sept. 15.
The brewery will be in Berkeley at 2031 Fourth St., an address that previously belonged to the now-closed Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room. An opening date for the Berkeley location has not been announced.
According to their website, Great Notion Brewing offers “hazy, fruit-forward” IPAs and “culinary-inspired” sours and stouts direct to beer drinkers from their taprooms in draft and cans. Food-wise, the brewpubs serve “creative Northwest food delicacies” such as seafood dishes, fried chicken sandwiches, house-smoked BBQ, and imperial kale caesar salads.
Great Notion Brewing has won medals and accolades at World Beer Cup, Great American Beer Festival, Best of Craft Beer Awards, and Oregon Beer Awards. They were also awarded the 2018 No. 1 IPA in America from Paste Magazine.
Great Notion Brewing — founded by James Dugan, Andy Miller, and Paul Reiter — currently has three locations in Portland, two in Seattle, and a fulfillment center in Sacramento. The Berkeley address will be their first location in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the co-owners, but they were not immediately available for comment.
