A brand new restaurant is coming to Oakland later this year called Baba’s House.
According to an on-sale beer and wine license uncovered by What Now San Francisco, Baba’s House will be replacing the recently-shuttered Ramen-Ya at 410 15th Street.
Owned by Jennifer Lui, Alan Chen, and Sherman Lui, the team is operating under the name Proud Asian Parents LLC. The team is relatively new, having only formed their LLC on July 6th.
Jennifer is the owner of Intwined Goods, a marketplace for small-batched home goods that helps foster community by uniting local artisans. She also helped operate Big Bad Wolf Kitchen, the culinary cannabis pop-up hosted by Chef Haejin Chun.
A dedicated political activist, Jenn served as the Director of Operations at Insidelands2020, a virtual festival and dance party sponsored by Outsidelands that promotes wellness and get-out-the-vote initiatives for the community.
Located in the heart of Downtown Oakland, Baba’s House will be opening up in a lively district with a plethora of different restaurants and outlets – though many of them have been closed indefinitely since the 2020 Pandemic. Baba’s House will be directly across the street from Lincoln University and only a few blocks away from the 12th street station, which should bode very well for the new restaurant.
Though Jennifer and her team could not be reached for further comment, the revival of downtown Oakland is welcome news for a community wearied by waves of closures. Stay tuned for further updates as more information continues to break.
