Sizzling Lunch is a new tenant at one of the spaces on the block of 1979 to 1987 Shattuck Ave, which is undergoing significant construction according to Google Maps as of June 2021. Owner Benny Yang confirms that their specific street number is still in the works, but that they hope to open doors within six months.

In any case, Sizzling Lunch will take up a 1,912 square-foot unit with enough space to support a full kitchen and indoor dining. The restaurant specializes in sizzling hot plates, a concept originating from traditional Japanese teppanyaki in which customers enjoy the experience of cooking their own food.

Customers can customize their plate to their own specifications, selecting from a variety of fresh meats or fish to be served over udon noodles or rice. The ingredients are arranged on cast-iron hot plates, then garnished with the customer’s choice of spices and sauces. The plate is then brought out to the table as the food is cooking for the freshest and most memorable dining experience.

Sizzling Lunch debuted in 2018 at its first location in Cupertino. Over the past three years, the restaurant has opened four more locations throughout San Jose, Fremont, and Santa Barbara. In addition to the newest location in Berkeley, Yang also has plans to expand to Mountain View and Foster City.
