Kiln, a new concept by a couple of Sons & Daughters veterans, is coming to 149 Fell Street in Hayes Valley. The eatery will take over the 3,400-square-foot space formerly home to Cala, a Mexican restaurant known for seafood and craft cocktails, with neighboring establishments including the gastropub B-Side, Nightbird, and Nojo Ramen Tavern.
The team behind Kiln are Partner and Chef John Wesley and Partner and General Manager Julianna Yang, who both previously belonged to the Sons & Daughters team. Teague Moriarty of T&M Restaurant Enterprises is also involved as an investor.
Ashley Hamik of Ashley Hamik Communications tells What Now San Francisco that Kiln will be a “Northern Californian tasting menu restaurant and will draw inspiration from Wesley’s and Yang’s experiences growing up in California.”
What Now San Francisco also spoke to Yang, who was unable to provide further details concerning the menu, but expressed enthusiasm about the locale — sharing that she and Wesley chose the Fell Street space for its “sense of minimalism and drama.”
The targeted opening is in the summer of 2023.
