Square Pie Guys, a fast-growing Detroit-style pizza concept known for its crispy cheese crusts and playful toppings, is getting ready to open in Walnut Creek.

The new East Bay location will mark the brand’s sixth storefront, according to the company’s website. The company’s newest outpost is expected to open in downtown Walnut Creek, though an exact address and opening date have yet to be announced. The expansion follows recent openings in San Francisco, Oakland, Campbell, and Palo Alto. Once open, customers can expect the brand’s signature square pizzas, fan-favorite wings, and rotating specials that often support local organizations.

Founded by Marc Schechter and Danny Stoller, Square Pie Guys launched as a pop-up in 2018 and has since grown into a full-service restaurant group. Its first permanent location debuted in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood in 2019. The brand has since gained a loyal following across the Bay Area for its modern take on Detroit-style pizza and community-centered approach to hospitality.

Each location offers a consistent core menu and often features site-specific specials and collaborations. In the past, Square Pie Guys has worked with nonprofits, including UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, the Jeremy Lin Foundation, and Oakland International High School, using limited-time menu items to fundraise and raise awareness.

The menu includes square pies such as the “Buffalo Chicken Pie,” which donates a portion of proceeds to charity, as well as the “Big Von,” topped with pepperoni, sausage, and hot honey. Vegetarian options, such as the “Plant Supreme” and “How Mush-Room?” round out the pizza lineup, alongside shareable items like dry-fried Szechuan wings, loaded salads, and warm brownies with a white chocolate drizzle.

Schechter and Stoller’s focus on building a pizza concept rooted in community impact has helped turn Square Pie Guys into more than a fast-casual brand. It has become a social mission wrapped in a crunchy-edged crust. As the Walnut Creek location nears its debut, the team continues to expand with purpose.
