"I think a lot of people are eager to be in that space again. It’s so prime being one block from Haight-Ashbury. It’s extreme people-watching," shares a co-owner.

According to SF Eater, the team behind The Red Tail — a wine bar known for offering a curated selection of local, European, and natural wines — plans to debut a new concept in Upper Haight.

Coming to 1601 Haight Street, taking over a space that was formerly home to Hobson’s Choice, The Green Heron will land near establishments such as Abu Salim Middle Eastern Grill, the Mexican restaurant Street Taco, and the cocktail bar Zam Zam.

“I know it’s a change for people in the [Haight] area,” a co-owner tells the Journal. He adds, “But I think a lot of people are eager to be in that space again. It’s so prime being one block from Haight-Ashbury. It’s extreme people-watching.”

What Now San Francisco contacted Conner Frederick — who operates the business alongside Joel ArmijoBen Sapone, and Wesley Wakeford — to inquire about the expansion, but he could not provide additional information before the time of publication.

Nevertheless, the Journal reports that “while upscale in many ways, the Green Heron will be a shot and a beer bar” and will serve traditional cocktails such as Old Fashioneds and martinis. Local craft beers will be offered on tap, there will be a selection of wine, and “small bits and bar snacks” will make up the food menu.

For readers who are unfamiliar with The Redtail, the wine bar aims to provide patrons with “approachable juice that also tells a great story and opens the customer up to something new but at the same time familiar,” according to a statement formerly found on its website.

The Green Heron is slated to open in fall 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
