According to a recently submitted alcohol license application, the international teppanyaki restaurant chain Benihana is gearing up to debut a new outpost in San Jose.
Coming to 5343 Almaden Expressway, the eatery will land near establishments such as PetSmart, the chocolate shop See’s Candies, and the frozen yogurt cafe Yopop.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the Senior Director of Operations at The ONE Group to inquire about the restaurant group’s plans for the upcoming location; however, he could not provide additional information before publication.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Benihana’s, the concept was founded by Yunosuke Aoki and his wife, Katsu, in 1964 in New York City — marking “America’s first Japanese teppanyaki restaurant,” per the business’s website. The concept quickly became known for preparing food “on steel teppanyaki grills right in front of customers… with intricate knife work and theatrics” and, by 1972, had opened six Benihana locations in the United States.
Today, Benihana is headquartered in Aventura, Florida, and operates over 70 Benihana restaurants across the Caribbean, Central and South America, and the United States.
On the menu, San Jose locals can expect to find a wide range of specialty sushi rolls and hibachi steak, tuna, and chicken — as well as seafood options such as lobster and shrimp, and noodle dishes including yakisoba and udon.
