Cochinita, a Bay Area food truck known for cooking up Yucatecan cuisine, has found a permanent home in South San Francisco. According to a pending alcohol license application, the eatery will arrive at 334 Grand Avenue, near eateries such as Andiamo In Banca, Dumpling and Cajun Seafood, and J&J Bakery.

Co-owners Karen Gonzalez and Sergio Albornoz introduced the concept back in 2017, hoping to bring Yucatán cuisine to San Francisco. What Now San Francisco briefly spoke to Gonzalez and she confirmed the address, expressing enthusiasm about the upcoming opening. “I have Yucatán in my heart and soul, everywhere I go and in everything I do. I wanted people to know more about my culture and our delicious food,” Albornoz shares on the eatery’s website.

The Cochinta menu is based on traditional recipes from Merida, Yucatán that have been passed down across generations, and embraces ingredients like annatto seeds, naranja agria, and charred chiles. Options include panuchos, salbutes, tacos, quesadillas, burritos, rice bowls, and, the weekend special, elote tots — “Mexican street corn on a bed of tater tots.”

An opening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned to Cochinita’s Instagram for additional updates. In the meantime, patrons can find the food truck at Barebottle Beer Week, 500 Marina Boulevard, and Presidio park.
