Plans are afoot for a new business at The Opera House in downtown Petaluma. A sign for The Kentucky has gone up in the window of the former Maguires Pub at 145 Kentucky St., leading many locals to make wild guesses as to what exactly is in store for this long-lost neighborhood haunt.

The owner of The Kentucky tells What Now San Francisco that tentative plans are currently underway for what will be a brand new restaurant and bar. “I hope the people of Petaluma will like what we got in store. We are transforming the space entirely, so that The Kentucky is poised to become a modern-day institution in its own right,” they say.

Last month, The Kentucky applied for a Type 47 ABC license with the state and has since had plenty on the to-do list in preparation for what he hopes will be a summer debut. If the planned construction reaches completion, the owner envisions The Kentucky as a totally brand new place.

Most of the minute details are still being worked out when it comes to the menu, but The Kentucky will have a full bar with an American kitchen, serving steaks, chops and the like. There might also be dueling pianos at the bar to create a fun, lively atmosphere you’ll want to visit at any time of the week.

That said, we’ll have to wait a few more months to see if these plans come to life. We will post updates if and when they are obtained. Stay tuned.
