A couple of established Bay Area restaurateurs seem to have a new concept up their sleeves, planning to debut an Italian restaurant in the Mission District later this year.
According to a recent report by Tablehopper, Barberio Osteria is taking over a spot at 557 Valencia Street that was formerly home to Ancora — a restaurant known for dishing out locally caught seafood that shuttered back in February.
Behind the Osteria are the owners of Nob Hill’s AltoVino, Chef Nick Kelly and Wine Director Calli Martinez.
For readers who are unfamiliar with the concept, AltoVino describes itself on its website as “a charming neighborhood restaurant offering a rotating menu of thoughtfully composed dishes that showcase the progression of the San Francisco seasons and capture the spirit of the regional Italian table.”
Tablehopper says the menu will remain in line with AltoVino’s, prioritizing traditional dishes from central and southern Italy.
What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a restaurant representative before the time of publication, and an opening date has not yet been announced, so check back in over the coming weeks for additional updates.
