Sesame Tiny Bakery recently announced in a newsletter that it will finally reopen a brick-and-mortar shop — and has a freshly signed lease for a space at 2533 Seventh Street in Berkeley to prove it.
Formerly “a pocket-sized bakery filled with sweet treats and cakes” found on Shattuck Avenue, in the same building as The Kebabery, Sesame closed in October 2022 — around the same time that The Kebabery decided to shut down for good.
Since then, Sesame Tiny Bakery has sold goods online, been a regular at farmers’ markets in Berkeley and Temescal, and held pop-up events throughout the Bay Area, while remaining on the hunt for a permanent location.
Sesame’s owner, Marykate McGoldrick, tells What Now San Francisco, “It’s going to allow me to take the business to the next stage — be open more days in the week and expand the menu,” though she’s not able to share specifics just yet.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Sesame Tiny Bakery, it’s known for its pastries and desserts made using all organic ingredients. On the current menu are coconut cake, an Easter Basket Box — containing cardamom & pistachio cookies, citrus glazed shortbread, coconut macaroons, walnut brown butter blondie, ricciarelli, and a small bag of candy — and Seville orange marmalade.
This should provide some consolation for loyal patrons of James Beard Award-winning chef Angela Pinkerton’s concept, Pie Society — the space’s present tenant — which announced its intended closure in early March.
However, Pinkerton’s regulars who aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to her “grandma-style” pies and savory snacks do have a little time left. Pinkerton shares with Eater that she will continue to serve pies to walk-in customers for the first three Saturdays of April.
Sesame moves into its new space soon after, on Monday, May 1, and is slated to open sometime this summer.
