National grocery store chain Trader Joe’s is planning to open a new shop at 555 Fulton Street in Hayes Valley. Should the sale of the building be finalized as expected, the outpost will be located on the ground floor of the residential building Fulton 555.

The update was announced last week by Z&L Properties, the developer, during a hearing called by Supervisor Dean Preston, who represents the neighborhood.

According to SF Eater, the 16,686-square-foot Hayes Valley Trader Joe’s was approved in 2021; however, a corruption investigation involving the former San Francisco Public Works chief delayed the project from advancing.

Preston tells the San Francisco Business Times, “While time was needed for alterations, at the time we were told to expect an opening date of late 2022 or early 2023. Yet as we greeted the new year, we made note that, to our dismay and to that of many in the neighborhood, there had been no significant progress in the efforts to bring Trader Joe’s into the space.”

What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a Trader Joe’s representative before the time of publication and an opening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned to the grocery store’s Instagram for additional updates.
