Pursuit, an ambitious new ramen concept from beef purveyor and spear-fisher extraordinaire, Erik Sun, will finally be coming to San Francisco at 715 Brannan Street.

A concept nearly six years in the making, Sun has envisioned opening his own ramen shop since 2016. An avid spear-fisher and hunter, Sun is incredibly passionate about fresh, high-quality ingredients and carries this philosophy into every venture he takes.

Before he became the chef/owner of San Francisco icons like Oxblood and The Hunted, Sun owned a South African spearfishing company that captured over 10 spearfishing world records. The time he spent hunting and fishing taught him how important it was to cook with the right ingredients, and ever since he’s dedicated his life to tracking down the freshest, most premium ingredients he can find.

His ramen is no exception, Sun has spent years training his skills and has imported a $60,000 noodle machine from Japan to ensure that the quality of his ramen equals the quality of his meat and fish. The restaurant will offer dozens of different options, each with customized noodles with different widths and levels of gluten, some featuring wheat flour and others featuring rye.

The new restaurant, located in the busy SoMa district, will feature a 15-seat ramen bar that will be open until midnight. It will also feature a 45-seat area dedicated to Yakiniku, a form of Japanese BBQ that will be perfect for Erik’s selection of rare, imported meats.

While Pursuit won’t be opening up until the early fall, hungry patrons can still order high-end imported meats directly from Eric’s website.
