Casa Borinqueña, the Puerto Rican restaurant based in San Francisco’s Saluhall, announced its closure in a recent Instagram post. In the official post, the restaurant mentioned that it will close its services permanently on New Year’s. The restaurant cited longstanding location-related challenges as the reason behind the closure.

Casa Borinqueña to Close After Location Challenges

Casa Borinqueña, founded by Chef Lulu, is located in the Saluhall food hall in San Francisco. The concept is known for Puerto Rican dishes made with fresh vegetables and vegan-friendly ingredients. The restaurant’s innovative menu includes Mofongo Cups, Coquito Tres Leches, Relleno De Papa, Loaded Tostones, and more.

Through an official Instagram post, the restaurant announced the closure of its San Francisco location. The restaurant shared, “Our time at Saluhall San Francisco is coming to an end.”

The team added that January 1, 2026, will be its final day of service and thanked guests for their support, “We just wanted to thank everyone who helped us make our dreams come true over the last two years.”

After the news of its closure, the restaurant’s Instagram was flooded with appreciation and heartfelt messages. “It’s not goodbye; it’s blessings, and many more blessings. You’re a beautiful spirit inside and out. May goodness flow to you,” wrote one fan.

Chef Lulu’s Roots and Vision

Chef Lulu, the head chef and founder of the restaurant, grew up in a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Brooklyn. She built Casa Borinqueña around the Puerto Rican flavors she grew up with, supported by her family.

Due to persistent location issues, the restaurant is permanently shutting down. The post mentioned on social media, “Many of you know that we fought an uphill battle with the location and being able to make changes, but the lessons we learned have taken us to places we thought unimaginable.”

The restaurant assured that this is not a goodbye, and it will be back soon with something new. Casa Borinqueña’s closure marks the end of its two-year run at Saluhall.
