What The Cluck, a fast-casual concept known for bringing “the mai bpen arai (care-free) spirit of Thailand” to the Bay Area, is opening a new outpost in Berkeley.

According to a recently approved business license, the restaurant is moving into the 1,000-square-foot space at 2114 Shattuck Avenue that was formerly home to The Flying Falafel — near establishments such as Gadani ice cream shop, Happy Lemon bubble tea store, and Tasty Express Chinese restaurant.

What Now San Francisco reached out to Vajirawich Wongpuvarak, the business’s co-owner, but he was unable to provide additional information before the time of publication.

Nevertheless, the filing reveals that What The Cluck will be a “limited-restaurant,” offering steamed chicken and rice to-go — seemingly in line with What The Cluck’s two outposts in San Francisco, one in Oakland, and its existing Berkeley spot at 1181 University Avenue.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the local chain, What The Cluck offers Bangkok street food-inspired “comfort food that’s healthy, quick, and affordable.” The eatery’s special is khao man gai, a simple dish made with chicken, ginger rice, and soy paste sauce.

An opening date has not yet been announced, so follow What The Cluck on Facebook and Instagram for additional updates.
