A local franchisee continues to expand Jimmy John’s throughout San Diego County, this time working on a new location in Cardiff at 815 Birmingham Dr.
The company’s newest location is set to move into the former home of IHOP and Mexico Viejo, according to documents submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. This is the latest from franchise owner Tali Burton, who in 2022 signed a 27-unit development agreement to bring Jimmy John’s Sandwiches to San Diego, previously reported by What Now. Thus far, Burton has opened sites in Downtown, Chula Vista, Pacific Beach, and near San Diego State University in the College area.
Now it’s clear where Burton will open the next Jimmy John’s in San Diego County. Burton tells What Now San Diego that this will be a drive-thru Jimmy John’s, and it will not feature a Dunkin, which Burton also franchises. Burton is nowhere close to slowing down expansion plans for Jimmy John’s. Earlier this year, the local franchisee hosted the Carlsbad Jimmy John’s grand opening at 7670 El Camino Real #102, followed by the opening of Escondido Jimmy John’s at 700 Centre City Parkway. He tells What Now San Diego that he has a few Jimmy John’s locations in development that will open in the next few months.
During these two North County grand openings, the restaurant surprised the first 25 guests with Free Sandwiches for a Year giveaways, and the first 250 guests received a coupon for a free beverage and Jimmy Chips combo upgrade for use during their next visit. Burton will likely hold these same celebrations at the new Cardiff location when it opens, likely sometime early next year, considering the application is being reviewed by the DEHQ.
