On December 20, 2025, an urgent recall was issued by Fran’s Chocolates, Ltd. The recall, conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), involves 112 units of a single product. The action was taken after the product was found to contain an undeclared hazelnut allergen, which can be serious or life-threatening for individuals with allergies.

The allergen was detected when an adverse allergic event related to the consumption of the product was reported. The incident was subsequently reported by the supplier that their Almondmilk Chocolate ingredient tested positive for hazelnut traces. The contamination occurred because the product was processed on shared equipment used for other items containing hazelnuts.

Details of the Recalled Product

Fran’s Chocolates, Ltd. is recalling its Fran’s Pure Bar Almondmilk Chocolate 46% Madagascar Plant-based. The company is recalling 112 units of this product with a net weight of 1.1 oz. The product was sold in four stores in Seattle and was also available for purchase online between October 9, 2025, and December 15, 2025.

No other products by Fran’s Chocolates, Ltd. are affected or included in this recall.

Symptoms of Hazelnut Allergy

Hazelnut allergy symptoms range from mild to severe. For mild to moderate symptoms, individuals may experience an itchy mouth, hives, swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue, or throat, nausea, and other symptoms. In severe cases, symptoms can include wheezing, sudden anxiety, dizziness, and even collapse.

One allergic event has been reported so far. No illnesses or deaths linked to other Fran’s Chocolates products have been reported.

What Happens Next

Consumers allergic to hazelnuts are advised not to consume the affected product. They are also to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers are urged to remain cautious while the recall is ongoing.
