According to a recent permit filing, 5 Star Cafe & Bar aims to debut in the Belltown area at 2231 2nd Avenue.
A representative of 5 Star Cafe & Bar was not able to relay that much additional information upon What Now Seattle’s request but did say that the new concept is family-owned. On the permit filing, two people are listed: Simran Kaur and Harinder Narula.
According to a property listing from Showcase, the property was built in 1900 and consists of two stories. One of the highlighted features of the building is exposed brick walls and is described as being “Currently configured as Grocery Store and Coffee Shop, these spaces have street front retail use with lots of exposure. Just blocks up from Seattle’s stunning waterfront and the famous Pike Place Market.”
Seattle Coffee Scene states that the coffee shop in question is Bedlam Coffee. A Facebook post from Vanishing Seattle published back in 2020 confirms this and Bedlam’s closure: “After 15 years, Bedlam Coffee on 2nd Ave has closed.”
“Est. 2005 & co-owned by Ben Borgman, Charlie Savage Monroe & Chris Connors (also a designer & created the #BedlamMonkey mascot + 100s of Bedlam posters), the eclectic, cozy, colorfully chaotic #OldBelltown cafe was “a coffee house in as true a sense as we can muster, a throwback to early 80’s #Seattle, a nod back to 1400’s Vienna, & a look back at 50’s Village cool.”
