A new Pakistani restaurant is set to open in Bellevue, expanding the city’s culinary footprint.

Baba’s Kebab Shop, owned by Shan Janjua, will open at 595 106th Ave. Janjua also owns Naan N Curry, with locations in Issaquah and Renton.

“We’re trying to expand the footprint of Pakistani food. Our goal has always been to expand on the Eastside of Seattle. We’re already in Issaquah, and then we also have a location in Renton. Bellevue kind of gives us a triangle coverage of the area,” Janjua told What Now Seattle.

The eatery is designed to make guests feel transported to Pakistan.

“We’re trying to invoke nostalgia from the Southeast Asia part of Indian subcontinent, very reminiscent of an upscale restaurant in Pakistan and India,” he said.

Baba’s Kebab Shop will highlight Pakistani comfort food, including kebabs, curry and biryani, a mixed rice dish made with meat or seafood, vegetables and spices.

“Pakistani food is not heavily reliant on spice to make the food hot. It involves flavor from the whole spices,” Janjua said.

The fare will feature locally sourced ingredients from Washington, along with select ingredients imported directly from Pakistan.

Janjua is aiming to open Baba’s Kebab Shop in early spring and is looking forward to introducing more people to the cuisine.

“I think we’re excited about the opportunity to showcase our culture through our food and being given a bigger platform to do so,” he said.
