A one-stop destination for children and parents alike is coming to Blue Ridge, a family-focused neighborhood in Seattle.

“My husband grew up there and then we moved there with our two boys about nine years ago. There had always been this little, tiny building on the corner of the entry into the neighborhood that had been abandoned for years. It always drove me crazy just sitting there completely empty,” owner Ashleigh Root told What Now Seattle.

She continued, “It also always drove me crazy that there was nothing in our community within walking distance for our kids to go get candy or ice cream or anywhere fun to walk to get a cup of coffee or glass of wine.”

That’s when Root decided to bring the vision to life with Blue Ridge Coffee House.

The coffee shop will feature classic coffee and espresso drinks made in partnership with local roaster True North. Morning offerings will include fresh pastries to pair with your coffee, while afternoons will bring grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, candy, ice cream and snacks.

On Friday and Saturday nights, Blue Ridge Coffee House will reopen for beer and wine offerings. The beer will come from Project Nine Brewery, while the wine selection will feature both local and global varieties. Evenings will also showcase light fare prepared by a local chef. The menu still in the works but expected to include options like cheese and crackers, grilled cheese with tomato soup, flatbreads and Northwest harvest bowls.

“The building itself is under 500 square feet, so everything is very strategic in what we’re bringing in because of that limited footprint,” Root said. “We have seats inside, and then outside, depending on the weather, we’ll be able to do some cute picnic blankets out on the lawn.”

Root said the vision has been three years in the making, and she’s eager to bring something new to the Blue Ridge neighborhood.

“I’m really excited about our team of staff we’ve hired. I feel like they are the people I would be most excited about my kids coming in and ordering ice cream from,” she said. “I’m excited to be there on a Sunday morning and making a latte for a sweet lady coming in and going for her morning walk. I’m just excited to create what I’ve always wanted. I want to be a customer.”

Blue Ridge Coffee House plans to open in December. For updates, visit the cafe’s website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
