Downtown Olympia’s shelved library is pouring a new chapter.
The Thurston Economic Development Council announced the historic building will be reimagined as the Carnegie Whiskey Library.
“Built in 1914 and designed by architect Joseph Wohleb, this landmark-listed building is undergoing a respectful transformation that blends history with hospitality,” the council shared via Facebook.
The renovated space will feature a lower-level members-only whiskey lounge with accessible entryways, while the upper floor will remain open and welcoming for community use. Carefully restored woodwork, ceilings and wainscoting will highlight the building’s history, complemented by a discreet modern addition housing an elevator, kitchen and ADA-compliant restrooms.
An exact opening date has not been announced, but a “coming soon” sign now hangs on the building. More details on the project are expected at the 2025 Real Estate Forum, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at the SPSCC Lacey Campus Event Center.
What Now Seattle reached out to the Carnegie Whiskey Library team, however, they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
