Common Ground, a new coffee shop coming to Tacoma owned by Tina Sidorko, will soon begin building out its space located at 2313 Tacoma Ave S.
Sidorko described it in an interview with What Now Seattle as a defining moment in 2017 when she realized it was time for her to leave social work and begin down a new path leading her to the best part of waking up: coffee! So she started at Anthem Coffee & Tea where she began learning the in’s and out’s of the business as well as becoming Team Manager along the way. Fast-forward five years and Sidorko is bringing her dream to life.
It didn’t just begin in 2017, but ten years ago when the coffee shop dream came to her. “From a young age, I had always loved going to coffee shops and meeting up with friends or just working from the shop. It’s a place where people can run into old friends, have their first dates, business meetings, relax and read or just hang out and be,” Sidorko said.
She’s not stopping at coffee though. “We all have Common Ground in being human,” Sidorko said. “Every single one of us has the desire to be seen, known, and loved. My vision is to provide a hospitable space for people to gather and build community while enjoying speciality coffee and delicious pastries, including counseling offices down the line as well as a way to help encourage others to seek mental health and not be ashamed of going to counseling.”
The heart of Tacoma will soon welcome Sidorko’s dream into the city once the buildout of her 1200 square foot space is complete. It is the “perfect size” as she described it allowing for a capacity of 25. She told us, “Common Ground will be serving Indaba Coffee from Spokane, Washington. Indaba’s mantra is ‘love people, love coffee’ and I fully agree with that!” No word on the opening timeframe as of Thursday, but follow the shop’s Instagram at @commongroundtacoma to keep up with their progress.
