Cookie’s Country Chicken is preparing to serve its famous fried chicken at a new Ballard location.
The new spot will be just 0.8 miles from the original Ballard outpost at 1744 NW Market St. The restaurant also has a location in Pioneer Square, expanding its reach across the city, according to its website.
“We’re moving! But don’t worry, we are staying in Ballard!” the website reads.
The new Cookie’s location will offer plenty of outdoor seating, space for large groups, TVs for game days, draft beer and its own parking lot.
The restaurant was founded by Brian Chandler, who spent a decade working on boats around the world, cooking for the crews. He discovered his passion for feeding large groups in the South, where he learned fried chicken had a way of bringing people together.
Cookie’s then transitioned into a pop-up venture during the pandemic before evolving into permanent locations in Pioneer Square and Ballard.
The chicken joint is famous for its fried chicken, with a spice meter ranging from mild “Dunk in the Mud” to “Cayenne Spice,” “Habanero Heat,” and the fiery “Ghost Pepper” at the top of the scale.
Aside from chicken wings and tenders, the restaurant serves signature chicken sandwiches, including “Cookie’s Classic,” with lettuce, tomato and sunny sauce, its version of honey mustard; “Hot Honey,” with lettuce, pickled jalapeño relish, mayo and garlic, habanero and serrano-infused honey; “The Barner Burner,” with lettuce, Duke’s mayo and pickles; and “The Slawsome,” with tangy slaw, pickles and smoky sauce.
They also offer lunch specials, family meals, bowls and Southern sides, from mac and cheese and collard greens to carnival corn and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy.
“A few of our motos we live and work by are “Whole Team Eats,” “Fried Chicken Every Way But Fancy” and “Fried Fresh to Order.” At the end of the day, we hope you loved your time with us and we can’t wait to feed ya’” the restaurant’s website reads.
An official opening date for the new Ballard location has not been announced. Visit the restaurant’s website and follow its Instagram for the latest updates.
