A beloved Philadelphia-based cookie chain is gearing up to take its sweet treats worldwide.
Insomnia Cookies plans to open 1,800 new stores over the next decade, including locations in the Seattle area, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.
The chain said it received a significant investment from Verlinvest and Mistral Equity Partners. CEO Seth Berkowitz said the funding will help accelerate the company’s growth.
“I’d imagine we’d find one in the next couple of weeks or months, because we’re going as aggressively as we can,” Berkowitz told the outlet.
The company launched its first Seattle locations in 2024, opening stores in the University District and Capitol Hill. While there’s no set goal yet for the number of Seattle locations, Berkowitz said most major cities tend to reach double digits.
Founded in 2003 in Berkowitz’s University of Pennsylvania dorm room, Insomnia was born from a late-night craving. He wanted something sweet and warm delivered to his door and saw a gap in the market for delivery and late-night dessert options.
Insomnia opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Syracuse, New York, in 2006. Since then, it has grown to operate more than 300 locations across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.
Insomnia’s menu features classic cookies like chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, sugar, oatmeal raisin and white chocolate macadamia. The chain also offers deluxe options such as s’mores, salted caramel and chocolate peanut butter cup. Other treats include brownies, blondies, brookies, cookie cakes and ice cream. Customers can build their own cookie ice cream sandwiches or order a warm cookie delivered straight to their door.
“We’re still serving up sweet rewards to the day dreamers and warming the after parties of the night-doers, growing a community of Insomniacs who love to stay up late,” the company’s website reads.
The cookie spot stays open until 1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
