Oh Vashon Brings Pan-Asian Comfort Food to Vashon Island

Small plates, noodle dishes and rice plates anchor the pan-Asian menu.

Yashon is about to get a new flavor hotspot as an Asian-inspired saloon and restaurant prepares to open its doors.

Oh Yashon, led by Unchalee “Oh” Ayucharoen and Sasatorn Pongburanakit, is debuting at 9919 SW 178th St.

Ayucharoen grew up in Thailand, helping her grandmother cook for the family and sell food at the local market. Later, she moved to the United States as an international student. Though homesick, she found comfort in the way food brings people together and began working in Thai kitchens, according to the website.

In 2012, Ayucharoen joined the opening team at May’s Kitchen and Bar on Vashon Island. She spent some time on the island before moving to Seattle, but a decade later, she returned to Vashon to bring her vision of Oh Vashon to life.

Oh Vashon will serve pan-Asian comfort food, featuring small plates like egg rolls, spring rolls, tamarind chicken wings, grilled beef skewers and chili garlic wontons, alongside fresh soups and salads.

Main dishes will showcase the Lemongrass Chicken Plate, with lemongrass chicken or tofu served with ginger turmeric rice, peanut dipping sauce and cucumber salad; Asian-style fettuccine with onion, potatoes, scallions, ACV-pickled carrots and daikon, fried shallots, fried wontons and turmeric coconut curry sauce; and the Broccoli Beef Rice Plate, featuring marinated flank steak, organic broccoli, house gluten-free soy garlic sauce and turmeric ginger rice.

“I hope to be a small part of the island that helps spread love, joy, and good times through food,” Ayucharoen said via the website.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board also recently approved Oh Yashon for a liquor license.

While an official opening date has not yet been announced, the restaurant’s website says “Opening soon.” Once open, hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
