While an official date for the change of hands and what this will entail has yet to be confirmed, in the early days of 1981, Gordon Bowker and Paul Shipman, the visionary founders of Redhook, embarked on a mission to redefine the beer landscape.
In a time when “lackluster” lagers and imports dominated the scene, Bowker and Shipman envisioned something more for beer enthusiasts. Armed with determination and a spirit of ingenuity, they transformed a renovated transmission shop in Ballard into the Redhook Ale Brewery, equipped with second-hand and makeshift equipment.
Redhook is described as remaining steadfast in its commitment to its founders’ original vision—to craft approachable, well-crafted beers that resonate with people from all walks of life. While recipes have shifted over the years, the core principles of entrepreneurship and unwavering dedication persist, infusing every endeavor as Redhook tirelessly works to create the most hardworking beer in the fridge, according to the company website.
Some of Redhook’s award-winning beers include the likes of Big Ballard Imperial IPA, Hazy Big Ballard Imperial IPA, and Tropical Big Ballard Imperial IPA. Just this year was the launch of Redhook’s Big Ballard IPA Variety Pack, an industry-first Imperial Craft 18 pack, according to Brew Public.
