Chef and Owner Melissa McMillan is bringing her high-end sandwiches to Seattle at Project 9 Brewing, 1409 NE 80th St.
McMillan slid into the DM’s of Project 9 with, “Yo, you need some good food in your place.” She at first was left on “Read,” but persisted with a follow-up which earned her a new location for her growing Sammich empire. “I’m a Texas native who spent most of my life in Chicago. My grit and attitude are totally Chicago. It really serves me here on the West Coast,” she told What Now Seattle.
Sammich will be located at Project 9 Brewing as a cart, but will still serve the entire menu that its Portland mainstay offers. “The sandwiches are loud. They’re big, made with the same quality of fine dining, but the food is between two pieces of bread,” McMillan said. The restaurant sources its meats and breads locally, which provides its own unique twist to the popular menu.
After 10 years in business McMillan has long since perfected her creations which has garnered the taste buds of Huffington Post, The New York Times, as well as Guy Fieri along with those of her loyal fans and customers.
She described Sammich as “the Cheers of sandwich shops.” Repeat customers’ names are known along with their orders, there’s banter and “talking back” with everyone, and a culture of fun has been created around her and in her shops.
Project 9 is in talks to brew up something appropriate to pair with Sammich’s famous Pastrami Zombie sandwich, according to McMillan.
“I’m pumped to be in Seattle and can’t wait to see the smiles on the guests’ faces. I’m excited to see Project 9 and Sammich be successful,” she said in closing.
Sammich’s Seattle location is set to open in “two weeks.”
