I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream (and soda!)
Shugs Soda Fountain + Ice Cream, owned by Colleen Wilkie and Paul Dormann, is closing its 1st Avenue location in Seattle, but the shop isn’t melting away and will reopen nearby.
“After so many scoops, floats, and unforgettable memories, we’re saying goodbye to our beloved 1st Ave shop, our very first baby. While it’s bittersweet to close this chapter, we’re beyond excited to share that Shug’s is relocating one block down to Pike Place, still in the Pike Place Market!” the shop shared via Facebook.
The post continued, “As our business continues to grow, we’re leaning into the demand, listening to where the community guides us, and opening the door to new opportunities. Moving to this space will give us more visibility, and allow us to continue our love for the Pike Place Market, our forever home.”
Specialty sundaes showcase the Sunday Market, featuring fresh fruit sauce, a waffle cookie, whipped cream and a cherry, and the S’more, made with roasted marshmallow, vanilla ice cream, graham cracker and hot fudge. Toppings range from caramel and chocolate sauce to fresh fruit, house-made marshmallows, hot fudge, Italian cherries and rainbow sprinkles.
Signature drinks highlight playful and adult-friendly options. The Prosecco Float pairs sparkling wine with sorbet and a Toschi Amarena cherry. Happy Pants combines Aperol, house-made orange soda and prosecco, with an optional scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Invierno Shake blends Kahlua, cold brew, coffee, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, while the Adult Root Beer Float features Not Your Father’s Root Beer with ice cream.
They also offer nonalcoholic options, with coffee and drinks made from locally roasted Caffe Fiore beans, including American, latte, cappuccino, mocha, cold brew, masala chai, hot spiced cider, hot cocoa, espresso and macchiato.
The 1st Avenue location will scoop its last cone on September 28, with a reopening date yet to be announced. In the meantime, customers can visit a mini outpost in West Seattle at 3800 California Ave. to get their ice cream and soda fix.
