The owners of Great State Burger and King Leroy will soon open a new Mexican restaurant called Sandia at 3600 NE 45th Street, according to a recent press release. The new restaurant will take over the space that was formerly known as Bistro Shirlee.

“We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of our new restaurant, Sandia.  The translation of “Sandia” means watermelon, which symbolizes an abundance of fun, family, health, and nutrition. Sandia aims to provide a lively and family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the joys of life and community.”

“We are scheduled to open our doors in late July, and Sandia plans to give the community a much-needed modern Mexican restaurant focusing on organic, healthy ingredients, with classic dishes and some house specialties that will become the “must-order” items for the table. Homemade chips and fresh organic salsa are made daily, and the tortillas will be made fresh in front of you and pair nicely with organic fresh guacamole.”

“Additional offerings will be a refreshing signature refreshing salad that will surprise you, with multiple types of delicious flautas and tacos that are unique and delicious. There is much more, but we do not want to give it all away just yet,” Yeager, one of its owners, told What Now Seattle in the press release.

Nathan Yeager has been in the Seattle restaurant scene for over 20 years. He is
behind Bandits Bar and Barracuda Taqueria circa the early 2000s. He most recently acquired Great State Burger and King Leroy from the Sea Creatures Restaurant Group, where he served as their Director of Operations for five years.

Chad Dale and Ira Gerlich, the two other partners behind Great State Burger, King Leroy, and Sandia are co-owners of the Sea Creature Restaurant Group, and many other projects throughout the city.
