Southern-style food is a market that is being filled in the Green Lake area.

Zach Lester, owner of Zax Eat ‘N Three, is working to open his new restaurant in mid-June at 7815 Aurora Avenue N. This is taking the place of Hangry Panda, the fried chicken, teriyaki and bubble tea spot that recently closed. Now, Lester has changed the signage to have his business displayed.

Lester worked with Hangry Panda before, and he is now taking over the business as ownership is being given to him. He’s designed the menu to be a Southern-style cafeteria setup, with options to choose your own meats and sides.

“It’s a style of food that I miss most being from the south,” Lester said.

Some of the mains include the house smoked meatloaf, topped with brown sugar and chipotle tomato jam, the smoked half chicken with house Alabama white sauce, and the braised pork shoulder with sweet and spicy gochujang sauce. There are also melt sandwiches and sides like pickle chips and the potato salad.

Lester also gives credit to his wife Kali who makes the ice box cakes. He expects this will be a popular item.
