Good news for regulars at St. Pete’s Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails: plans to demolish the building at 1111 Central Avenue to make way for a new hotel have caught a hitch, and despite previous reports, Intermezzo isn’t going anywhere.

Still, having expected to be forced into moving, the EDGE District cafe and cocktail bar had already invested in a nearby space, at 1049 Central Avenue (formerly occupied by Independent Bar), as a replacement. Now that Intermezzo is staying put, that space will be transformed into a brand new sister concept, Bar Mezzo, says coverage by St. Pete Rising.

Owner Jarrett Sabatini explained the future of the two concepts to St. Pete Rising as follows:

“Intermezzo will still be that low-key neighborhood bar with drinks you might find in Rome—Spritz, Americano, Negroni—simple cocktails done very well. Whereas, Bar Mezzo will be a sophisticated cocktail experience.”

What Now reached out to Sabatini on Friday to ask about the details of Bar Mezzo’s cocktail program. Sabatini was not immediately available for comment.
