Bonchon Looks to Be Bringing Korean Fried Chicken to Wesley Chapel

Born in Busan, South Korea, this Korean fried chicken brand is growing fast in the U.S.

Founded by Jinduk Seo in 2002 in Busan, South Korea, Bonchon is a Korean fried chicken brand whose name means hometown. And where is Bonchon’s hometown? More and more, the answer is: everywhere!

“This has been a milestone year for Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon, which surpassed 150 U.S. locations in February,” said an article in QSR Magazine earlier this year. “After a strong foundational 2024, the brand is doubling down on its upgraded tech stack, catering channels and innovation pipeline as it prepares to break franchising records for the second consecutive year.”

And Bonchon’s growth now looks to be continuing in the Greater Tampa Bay area with a new location planned for Wesley Chapel. According to plan review documents submitted by Kyromina LLC, a new Bonchon is in the works at 27093 Halter Loop.

Bonchon’s chicken isn’t limited to wings: there are drumsticks, strips, and boneless wings too, and it’s all served with your choice of sauce. Pick from flavor profiles like Soy Garlic, Korean BBQ, Yangnyeom, and Classic Crunch. And that’s not even to mention the Bonchon’s selection of entrees, which features Korean classics like Bulgogi, Japchae, Bibimbap, and Tteokbokki.

“Bonchon chicken is straight mukbang material,” says the Bonchon website. “Muk-what? Muk-order-up-and-stuff-your-face deliciousness. That’s what! So, you in? It’s time to crunch out loud!”

What Now reached out on Friday to franchisee Essam Takla to ask about plans for a new Bonchon in Wesley Chapel. Takla was not immediately for comment.
