“Brewing soon in New Port Richey,” declares the Instagram page of the Espresso Gallery & Cafe, a new cafe launching at 6130 Massachusetts Ave early this spring. It promises “fresh espresso,” “sweet treats,” and “cozy vibes.”

“The computers and phones are really taking over the world,” owner Michael Ottaway told What Now on Wednesday, explaining the inspiration behind the Espresso Gallery & Cafe. “People don’t have much human-to-human contact, and the downtown area was lacking quality coffee and a place where people can gather and just meet one another. Just sit and talk over a breakfast sandwich or a cup of coffee.”

And not just coffee and sandwiches, by the way. The menu will, of course, feature espresso-based classics, but you’ll also find bubble tea, New York bagels with lox (and more), pastries, and comfort foods like Biscuits & Gravy.

The space will feature a bar with stools for enjoying coffee and getting some work done, while the main seating area will be structured as a gathering place with comfortable seating. Out back, you’ll find a gazebo with a waterfall, “so people can listen to the water while they’re reading a book,” Ottaway says.

On the book subject, local donations will be providing books for those looking for a quiet place to slow down for a few minutes and do some reading. It’s part of an overall focus on parts of life that used to be so easy to come by: the Espresso Gallery wants to be a hub for book clubs, for local artisans (yes, there will be farmers market events!), and for Kids Days and other events to bring families together.

In phase 2 of the project, the Espresso Gallery & Cafe plans to serve beer and wine and provide a stage for live music. This could be New Port Richey’s new favorite gathering place!
