Born in Rome, pizzeria concept Piccolo Buco is preparing to launch its first location in Florida in Tampa’s Carrollwood neighborhood, at 14904 N Dale Mabry Highway. It is brought to the area by the Cooper’s Winery and Restaurants team.
The news was announced last July, in a Facebook post by Agile Group Realty.
“With just two locations worldwide—in Rome, Italy, and Oak Brook, Illinois—‘Piccolo Buco’ is now making its way to Tampa,” the announcement said. “This marks Florida’s first location under the Cooper’s Hawk concept, which prides itself on its commitment to good pizza and good service.”
The Piccolo Buco page on the Cooper’s Hawk website tell the story:
“Cooper’s Hawk Founder Tim McEnery fell in love with Rome’s famed Piccolo Buco pizzeria on a trip to Italy and was determined to bring it to guests and Wine Club Members in the US… Chef Luca’s unique pie features a tall, crown-like crust that is crisp on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. The extraordinary look and crave-able taste are the result of high-quality ingredients including imported Italian flour, and EVOO that was awarded 97 points by the 2016 Flos Olei Guide to the world’s best olive oils!”
The menu features plenty of wine and cocktails, plus a food selection that includes antipasti like Mama Luca’s Meatballs and Crispy Stuffed Squash Blossoms; pizza choices like Classic Margherita, Charred Pepperoni, The Vegan+ (roasted red pepper, zucchini, eggplant, wood roasted tomatoes, Kalamata olives, black garlic, EVOO), and Fungo; and main dishes like Norwegian Salmon, Braised Short Ribs, and Chicken Parm.
What Now reached out to Tim McEnery on Monday to ask about the opening. McEnery was not immediately available for comment.
