Located at 701 E Hinson Avenue in Haines City, Tortilleria La Mexicana has been offering guests scratch-made Mexican cuisine since 2003. It has also been offering homemade Mexican-style ice cream, a product that has met with considerable success in its own right: it’s about to spin off into a new ice-cream-focused concept, Lucy’s Homemade Ice Cream.
“The restaurant is a homemade scratch kitchen, and Lucy’s will be the same,” co-owner Cristian Honorato told What Now on Monday. Honorato is launching Lucy’s in partnership with his brother, Brian, further developing the business started by their father, Catalino. “None of it is purchased. Everything is house-made with fresh ingredients.”
Lucy’s Homemade Ice Cream will offer a variety of ice cream flavors—including chocolate, vanilla, Gansito, Fresas con Crema, and more—served with fresh-made waffle cones. There will also be house-made paletas and aguas frescas, the latter of which have been served at La Mexicana in flavors like Horchata, Fresa, Piña Colada, Tamarindo, and more.
“We’re looking forward to bringing something delicious to the community,” Honorato said.
Lucy’s will open at 705 E Hinson Ave., right next door to Tortilleria La Mexicana, at the intersection with South Eighth Street.
