As Huey Magoo’s, the fast-casual restaurant that serves the “Filet Mignon of Chicken,” continues to expand, getting to closer and closer the 100-unit mark, the franchise is preparing to start work on its first location in St. Petersburg, opening at 4331 34th St.

Behind the location are franchisees Collie and Dametris Lightsey, who opened a Hugey Magoo’s in Pinellas Park back in 2022.

“We are extremely excited to finally bring Huey Magoo’s to Pinellas Park,” the Lightseys said in a press release at the time.  “This has been a dream come true for us.  The restaurant is beautiful, and we know people will love the food.”

“We came out of working in a childcare center, working with about 400 low-income kids,” Mr. Lightsey told What Now on Friday. “We sent one of our staff members to a sports game, and when they came back, they asked if we’d tried [Huey Magoo’s]. So we went, we tried it, and we loved it. We were already looking for a franchise; we had it on our vision board.”

And now, the Lightseys are expanding with location number two!

“As the country’s premier chicken tender concept, we’re proud to only provide our guests with the best 3% of the chicken, which is the tenderloin and The Filet Mignon of Chicken®,” says the brand’s website. “As a brand, we apply The Filet Mignon of Chicken® philosophy to everything that we do. Whether it’s the ambiance, food quality or our high level of service, we are elevating the fast-casual experience for each and every guest that walks through our doors.”

“We’re excited,” Lightsey said. “10 percent of our business derives from St. Pete already. The brand is booming. It’s top service, top quality food. We’re not a fast-food restaurant… we just have a drive-thru.”
