A new breakfast and lunch spot is preparing to open its doors in Tampa. Called JJ’s Eatery, it will launch at 2104 E Sligh Ave, across the street from Sligh Middle School. It will be a place “Where the Breakfast Is Bangin’ and the Cubans are Calling Your Name,” Iris, who owns the restaurant, told What Now on Friday.
JJ’s Eatery is Iris’s first restaurant, but she’s been serving people through food for years, particularly in her work providing food for unhoused people.
“Sometimes what you do when you give to people, what becomes your passion, also becomes your business,” Iris told What Now. “This dropped into my hands, it was a blessing from God, and all I had to do was come in and create the concept. Now I want to find a way to keep serving the community and the homeless.”
JJ’s Eatery will serve breakfast classics, plenty of coffee and Cuban sandwiches. Iris says the goal is to open in time for the start of the school year, in order to serve breakfast for teachers in the morning. Then, on the weekends, JJ’s Eatery will also be serving up a soul food menu.
No opening date has been set just yet, but keep an eye out for updates as summer goes on.
