At the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive East in Oldsmar, amid hotels like the Residence Inn Tampa Oldsmar, the Courtyar Tampa Oldsmar, and the Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Northwest/Oldsmar, a new Mexican restaurant is preparing to open its doors. Called La Placita Modern Mexican Cuisine, it’s opening in the space formerly occupied by Applebee’s at 4016 Tampa Road.
The opening has been some time coming. A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page published almost a year ago announces, “Muy pronto mi gente de [Oldsmar],” (“Very soon my people from Oldsmar,” if our Spanish doesn’t fail us).
“Yes, but when???” asks one comment published only two weeks ago.
Well, that has yet to be announced, but the restaurant’s time appears to be coming at last. What Now came across submitted plan review paperwork for the restaurant to open at 4016 Tampa Road. It’s already viewable (marked “temporarily closed”) on Google Maps.
What Now reached out on Thursday to co-owner Hector Alvarez to ask about the restaurant’s opening timeline. Alvarez was not immediately available to discuss the project.
