A new Jamaican restaurant is opening in Clearwater, at the Cleveland Street Market food hall. Called Lazy Jerk Caribbean Eats, this brand new concept will soon be “bringing fresh, authentic Caribbean cuisine straight to you!”
What Now spoke on Wednesday with owner Cheivia Fennell about the upcoming restaurant. Fennell says you can expect Jamaican classics like Jerk Chicken and Jamaican Patties, plus freshly squeezed ginger punch drinks.
“It had kind of always been a hobby for me,” Fennell said about the process that has taken her from cooking Jamaican food to—soon— doing it for the public. “Finally I started to take it seriously. I realized, this was what I wanted to do with my life.”
A menu on the Lazy Jerk website, which is still under construction, teases a few other items too: there’s the Beef Patty, the Curry Chicken Patty, the Jammin Chicken Sandwich, and Sweet Spice Rolls. Further details on the menu are still to come.
“I just want to bring a piece of the Caribbean, a piece of Jamaica, to people here in the States,” Fennell said. “It’s going to be a place for people to escape, where you can vibe, relax, and have some food.”
