Part of the generation of restaurants born during the COVID years, Matjoa Korean BBQ has passed its fifth birthday and is preparing to settle into a new home. The family-owned restaurant—known for dishes like Stone Bowl Bibimbap and Jjam Ppong and for making everything, from its gochujang to its marinades, from scratch—has closed its location in Clearwater. It’s now preparing reopen in Odessa, at 8568 Gunn Highway, according to coverage by Creative Loafing Tampa.
“It’s going to be a similar menu with some new additions,” co-owner Joe Bare told What Now on Friday. “We’re redesigning how things will flow in the new location.”
New additions will include the cold buckwheat noodle dish mul naengmyeon (a personal favorite on our part); others are still under wraps.
“Matjoa Korean BBQ is a trendy and casual restaurant that offers a wide variety of delicious Korean barbeque dishes,” says the Matjoa website. “The menu features mouthwatering appetizers like Jumbo Korean Style Corn Dog and Kimchi Pancake, as well as enticing entrees such as Stone Bowl Bibimbop and Stir Fried Japchae Noodle. The soups, including Kimchi Soup and Dwenjang Jjigae, are also flavorful and satisfying. With options for both meat lovers and vegetarians, Matjoa Korean BBQ caters to a diverse range of palates.”
