A popular taco spot is making its return to Ybor City.

Mema’s Alaskan Tacos plans to open this fall at 1903 N 19th Street, Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reports. The space was formerly occupied by Vegan Deli, which closed in 2022.

Owner Sean Godin first opened Mema’s Alaskan Tacos in 2004 in a space that’s now occupied by Jimmy’s Tacos, not far from the new one on 19th Street. It closed in 2011.

The concept served tacos in varieties like gator, fish, chicken and beef based on family recipes inspired by Godin’s grandmother. The tacos are lightly fried in peanut oil for a crispy texture and topped with additions like cheese, lettuce, sour cream and salsa.

The new iteration of the restaurant is expected to have these same tacos that customers came to know and love.

Mema’s Alaskan Tacos is returning to open arms; an updated profile picture on the Facebook page prompted a wave of fervent enthusiasm from fans excited about the apparent return.

Godin could not be reached for more information.
