This summer, Downtown Plant City will be getting a new hangout for lovers of comic books, anime, manga, and East Asian-style casual cuisine. Opening at 303 S Collins St, Plant City Comic Cafe will offer food, craft lemonade, and a well-stocked inventory of comic books.

“With a comic shop, a lot of people bring their kids and generally just waiting for them,” Michelle, who owns Plant City Comic Cafe, told What Now on Thursday. Now, Plant City shoppers will be able to enjoy a variety of light bites in addition to an exciting comic book collection.

“We’re trying to a mix of American food and Asian food,” said Michelle. “So we’ll do onigiri, kimbap, and instant ramen in a sort of South Korean convenience-store-style.”

There will also be burgers, wings, and—Michelle emphasizes—vegan options, for guests with plant-based diets who may not have so many choices nearby.

Furthermore, if you’ve been stopping by Plant City’s regular food truck rally in the last year, you’ll recognize Michelle’s craft lemonade, made with ingredients like ube, elderflower, violet, rose, and even chocolate. The lemonade has been making a splash this last year and can be expected to draw in guests who have been waiting for it to find a permanent home.

“People keep asking us, do you have a spot yet?” said Michelle.
