“We are going to bring some soul to Tampa,” says Gus Theiken in an Instagram post by the Tampa Bay Business Journal Newsroom. The restaurateur, known most recently as the general manager of popular Water Street restaurant The Pearl, is preparing to open La Victoria, a new Mexican restaurant, in downtown Tampa.
“Thieken, who was most recently The Pearl’s general manager, is partnering on La Victoria with a childhood friend whose family, the Mezas, owns and operates three Mexican restaurants,” the post says.
La Victoria will replace the former Melting Pot Social in a 3,800-square-foot space on the ground of the Ave Tampa Riverwalk apartment complex.
“We are SO excited!!” commented the Ave Tampa Riverwalk Instagram account.
Details on the menu are not yet available. What Now reached out to Thieken on Thursday to ask about plans for the opening and La Victoria’s food and beverage program. Thieken was not immediately available for comment.
“Before opening, Thieken will begin hiring and expects about 60 employees at full operation,” the post continues. “The restaurant is slated to open in September, he said.”
Stay tuned for more details about La Victoria as they become available.
