Last October, What Now reported on plans for Sarasota favorites Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Patricks 1481 to open locations in Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport’s Concourse A. As those plans have come to fruition, SRQ is now at work on Concourse B, where a slate of new restaurants are expected to open.

This week, What Now came across plan review documents showing a new Wahlburgers location opening at the airport. As it happens, it’s part of a series of upgrades planned for Concourse B, as Business Observer reported earlier this year.

If Wahlburgers’ name reminds you of Hollywood star Mark Wahlburg, you’re right on the money. The brand’s website shares its origin in a star-studded family:

“One brother, Donnie, didn’t just join the school band as a kid. He created the most famous boy band in the world. His younger brother, Mark, didn’t just take drama. He became one of the most famous actors in the world. And for Paul, well, he loved food and his family. But he wasn’t satisfied cooking for just them. He wanted to cook for everyone else’s family too. He was hungry for something more. So, he created Wahlburgers…”

The menu features a range of burger choices from the Pepperoni Smash (Two Certified Angus Beef patties, provolone cheese, crispy julienne pepperoni, Chef Paul’s rosemary tomato jam and garlic butter) to the O.F.D. (Two Certified Angus Beef patties, Swiss cheese, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and tomato jam), to the Super Melt (Two Certified Angus Beef patties, government cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and Paul’s signature Wahl Sauce).

What Now reached out on Tuesday to Tim Clark, Regional VP of Operations at SSP America, which will be operating the Wahlburgers location, to ask about plans for the rollout. Clark was not immediately available for comment.
