What Now reported at the end of 2023 on the planned opening of a second location for Tsunami Sushi & Hibachi Grill in Lakewood Ranch. Tsunami, which offers “creative sushi and Asian fusion cuisine, whether you’re stopping by for a lunch break while exploring downtown, planning a night out with friends, enjoying a romantic dinner, or celebrating a special occasion,” has since launched in Lakewood Ranch, but the Tsunami Sushi team isn’t stopping there.

A new, related concept is now in the works. News of the opening broke on local-insider Facebook page Restaurants in Sarasota, which cites City of Sarasota permitting records showing Hanami Sushi opening in the space formerly occupied by Nancy’s Bar-B-Q, at 1525 Fourth Street in the Rosemary District. Behind Hanami Sushi is Tsunami Sushi owner Sam Ray.

“It’ll be a sister restaurant to Tsunami,” Sam Ray told What Now on Wednesday. Ray says it’s still too early to share any details about the menu or opening timeline for Hanami Sushi, however. “We’re still working on the drafting and design.”

Opening in the former Nancy’s Bar-B-Q space, Hanami Sushi will join restaurants like Mandeville Beer Garden, Station 400, and FOOD+BEER.
