Arkansas-born chicken franchise Slim Chickens is preparing for a major expansionary push in the Greater Tampa area. The first location is expected to open in Wesley Chapel this August, at 27244 Wesley Chapel Blvd.

Charlie Blumberg—a partner, along with Zach FerrellJared BlairDaniel Haligas, and Brian Lee, in Florida Slims, the franchisee group working to develop the area—told What Now on Wednesday that subsequent locations are expected to follow fairly quickly.

“We’re going to open twenty-plus over the next few years,” Blumberg said. “We’re breaking ground in Lake Wales next month, in Davenport the month after that, and in New Port Richey we should break ground before the end of the year. We’re also headed to San Antonio.”

Slim Chickens offers a menu featuring tenders and wings served with fries, toast, and a selection of sauces like Ranch, Cayenne Ranch, Slim Sauce, Honey Mustard, Garlic Parmesan, Mango Habanero, and a whole lot more. It also offers several chicken sandwich varieties, including the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the Buffalo Ranch Sandwich, and the Chicken Club Sandwich. There are also sides like Fried Okra and Fried Mushrooms, along with the classic comfort food Chicken & Waffles.

The Wesley Chapel Boulevard location—Florida Slims’ first stop—is situated near the intersection with Old Pasco Road. Blumberg says Florida Slims is expecting a big opening.

“We’re hiring a lot of people. They opened one in Bradenton,” Blumberg said, referring to a location launched by a different franchisee. “And they opened to some large and exciting numbers. We’re hoping to do the same.”
