The intersection of Northeast Fifth Street and Northeast Ninth Avenue in Mulberry is the future home of a new snack bar. Snackatory will open at 905 NE Fifth Street, on the bottom floor, in a space connected to the Mulberry Public Library.
“We were experimenting with traditional snacks, and that word, experiment, stuck with us,” co-owner Hailey Martinez told What Now in a phone conversation. Hence the name: snack + laboratory = Snackatory.
Snackatory will offer a range of snack choices, from Hot Cheetos loaded with melted cheese to fries, cold soft drinks, Mexican-style fruit cups, and more. There will also be cold sandwiches served with chips and a drink, plus beverages like tea and coffee. The Snackatory space will seat about 35 guests, along with some outdoor seating. The goal, Martinez says, is to have a place for people of all generations to spend time, right next to the libary.
“We want it to be a place where everybody feels comfortable,” said Martinez, who is opening Snackatory with her sister-in-law, Nyla. The two went to the same high school, Martinez said, but didn’t start spending time together until much later. “My sister-in-law was a cheerleader, and I was more of a loner, and we wondered, would we ever have hung out? We thought, let’s create a place where everybody can get to know each other.”
You can keep up with the opening (Snackatory is shooting for mid-January, Martinez says) by following Snackatory’s Facebook page.
