St. Petersburg shopping mall Tyrone Square will soon be home to a brand new ice cream concept with a focus on soft serve. Offering a wide variety of flavors, along with milkshakes and other beverages, Sun Cones Ice Cream is planning to open at the mall sometime this summer.

“We’re building right now, and we’re hoping to finish and get open around midsummer,” co-owner John Marston told What Now on Wednesday.

Marston and his lifelong friend and business parter Peter Schwab had the idea for an ice cream brand that would solve what they considered to be common problems with many ice cream shops.

“We just kind of wanted to improve on the service of these ice cream shops where you’re waiting in line for almost thirty minutes,” said Marston. “And where, if you want soft serve, they only have chocolate and vanilla.”

Not so with Sun Cones, Marston says. In the new ice cream shop you can expect excellent service and a wide variety of soft-serve ice cream flavors. Details on the menu are still under wraps.

The location in Tyrone Square Mall will feature seating for about 12 people and is hoping to capitalize on all that foot traffic. So start keeping an eye out St. Pete: your new favorite spot for soft serve is opening this summer!
