What Now first reported on the opening of Tango Brew Cafe y Vino in March of last year. Now, as nearly a year has passed, the Italian-Argentinian wine bar and cafe is preparing to launch on February 7, owners Christopher and Nahara Walters told What Now on Tuesday.

The menu has yet to be released, but the Walters are teasing a few items so far off the food menu. The first are Tango Brew’s empanadas.

“These empanadas are a little different,” said Christopher. “They’re made with a different type of dough. Normally the dough people use for empanadas is like a pie crust, so flaky that when you eat them they disintegrate. These are bit more doughy, and sturdier.”

Also on offer—and also handmade in-house—is a croissant-shaped pastry called a Medialuna (half-moon in English), which Walters says tastes a bit different from your normal croissant: “They’re more buttery and sweet, and they go really well with coffee. You can also top them with dulce de leche, simple syrup, or Nutella. We’re really excited about them.”

The menu will also feature pizza-style flatbreads with classic toppings like pepperoni.

That’s on the food side. To drink, the emphasis is on coffee (provided by local supplier Brisk), and wines from a variety of locales, but especially from the Argentinian province of Mendoza and from Italy. There will also be selection of organic and unfiltered wines. And top all that off: Tango Brew’s Cafe Vineyard menu, which features beverages that combine coffee with wine. As the song goes, these are a few of our favorite things.

All this will be served in a relaxing atmosphere featuring the jazzy dim lighting of a speakeasy. Imagine piano music, live jazz and Bossa Nova from local artists, wine tastings, and a chill environment with wifi and plenty of power outlets for people looking for somewhere cool to get a little work done.

“We also want to be a third space for people who are tired of being at home and work all the time,” Christopher said.

The ribbon cutting is February 7, so mark your calendar!
