“1957, when Harry J. Hoenselaar opened the first Honeybaked store in Detroit, Michigan, like most great companies, he did so because he believed in an idea,” says the website of the Honey Baked Ham Co., a meat shop (and lunch spot) with more than 40 locations in Florida alone. “An idea that produced what is regarded today as the world’s best ham. Using the highest quality bone-in smoked ham, Harry created a special curing and cooking procedure, bringing out a one-of-a-kind taste that can only be described as perfection.”
As the Honey Baked Ham Co. has grown to become a household name, the franchise has opened stores all over the country, with a total of about 500 units now in the network.
And now, its preparing to open a new location in Venice, just in time for spring. A new Honey Baked Ham Co. will launch at 527 US 41 Bypass N, with a soft opening planned for March 23, and with a Grand Opening to follow in April.
“We’re opening in Bird Bay Plaza, which is known as Venice’s Foodies Heaven, because of all the great restaurants there,” franchisee Charlotte Marcum told What Now on Friday. “My husband and I both grew up with Honey Baked Ham. Our parents always had them, and we had always gotten them for the holidays. Since there wasn’t one near us, we contacted them, and they were looking for a store in Venice. And it all went from there.”
“With its sweet, crunchy glaze enhancing the flavor of the bone-in gourmet ham, Harry’s patented spiral-slicing process made Honey Baked Ham the easy-to-serve centerpiece, becoming an instant staple at holiday dinners, Easter celebrations and meaningful meals shared and savored by family and friends,” the Honey Baked site says.
In addition to its signature hams, turkeys, and prepared meals, Honey Baked is also great choice for lunch on the go, with sandwiches like the Turkey Bacon Avocado, The Honeybaked, and the BBQ Smoked Stacker.
Opening in Bird Bay Plaza, Honey Baked will join restaurants like El Chipotle Latin Restaurant, Tikka Indian Cuisine, The Star Thai & Sushi, and more.
